Using the app

A route has a wrong turn, or the road has changed

During a drive, tap the flag button at the bottom of the screen and choose what is wrong. The app saves where you are on the route, so we can check that exact place. Only a passenger should do this, or the driver when parked.

I bought a pass but the routes are still locked

Open the Me tab, find Passes and tap Restore. Make sure you are signed in to the same App Store or Google Play account that bought the pass, and that the phone is online: the app confirms each pass with us before it unlocks the routes. Your pass comes back with the same test centres.

How do I get a refund?

Passes are sold by Apple or Google, so refunds go through them. On iPhone, use reportaproblem.apple.com. On Android, open Google Play, go to your order history and ask for a refund there.

I cannot hear the directions
  • Turn up the media volume and check the phone is not on silent.
  • In the app, open Me and check that Spoken directions is on.
  • During a drive, check that the speaker button at the bottom is not muted.
  • If the phone is connected to the car by Bluetooth, the voice may play through the car’s speakers.
The app says I am off the route when I am not

GPS can be weak between tall buildings or if the phone is low down in the car. Put the phone in a holder near the windscreen. If it keeps happening at the same place, please report it with the flag button.

How do I record my driving test?
  1. At the test centre, open the Record tab and choose Record my test.
  2. Read and tick the rules, then start the recording while you are parked.
  3. Lock the phone, set it to silent and put it away. It keeps recording with the screen off.
  4. After the test, hold the finish button, then tell the app how it went, if you want to.

The tester’s instructions always come first. If you are told that recording devices are not allowed, or to switch your phone off, do not record.

The recording stopped when I locked the phone

The app needs permission to use your location while the screen is off. In your phone’s settings, open PassRoutes, then Location, and allow it. On iPhone choose Always or While Using the App with Precise Location on.

For driving instructors

PassRoutes routes come from instructors who know their test centre. If you are an approved driving instructor (ADI), you can add the routes you teach:

  1. Install the app and choose Driving instructor when it asks who you are.
  2. Open the Record tab and choose Record a route. Start at the test centre.
  3. Drive the route. A passenger, or you when parked, can mark the spots for the hill start, the reverse around a corner and the turnabout.
  4. Finish the recording and send it to us, or share it as a file.

We check every recording before it becomes a route. If you like, your name is shown on the routes you recorded. Please only record routes you drive yourself. We do not accept routes copied from other apps, websites or videos.

The app is not in the App Store or Google Play yet. To join the test group as an instructor, get in touch: Send us a message with the contact form.

We read every message and reply by email.

We use what you send only to answer you. Messages are deleted after 12 months.

Delete my data

On your phone

Open the Me tab and tap Delete all my recordings. Deleting the app removes everything else the app kept on your phone: your settings, progress and passes.

Recordings you sent to us

There are no accounts, so we need a little help to find your recording. Tell us the test centre and the date and time of the drive, and we will delete it and confirm within one month. Send us a message with the contact form.
